Curiosity Cohort

Facilitator: Lauren
Ages 18+
Curiosity Cohort is a monthly group for consistent gathering and art making to explore the artist’s role in answering tough questions. Readings and prompts - centered on a theme - will be sent weekly to support participants individual explorations and art practice. Our shared findings and mutual participation will guide the structure when we gather monthly. As well, new art making techniques will be introduced to add to each artist’s tools. Our goal is to increase our capacity to emotionally respond to the topics we are probing and build community along the way
Theme: Climate Grief
As the climate crisis impacts our communities and beyond, what is the role art making can play in metabolizing the grief that accompanies these changes? Art making is a safe way to express anger and sadness, as well as means to cope with uncertainty. Through shared stories and imagery, we aim to create space for independent and collective research to reveal new paths forward. Perhaps we will go down these paths together or leave them for independent study. Certainly, these months will create ample time to relish in the planet that we love! We hope this cohort will grow our understanding of making art as a practice for surmounting despair and metabolizing our emotions.
Accessibility: Previous art making experience is not required. Participants will be invited to explore topics that may bring up feelings of vulnerability or discomfort. While all individual’s will be welcome to participate at the level of their choosing, a willingness to share with the group will support the overall cohesion of the cohort and exploration of the theme. Various mediums with a range of mobilities will be used throughout the cohort, with a spectrum of choices for each group.
Covid Safety Protocols
Masks are not required at this time. Masks continue to be available for participants and instructors that are interested in wearing them. We trust that individually and collectively we can exert care in our attendance decisions to promote the wellness of our community if feeling sick or symptomatic.
