We believe that the systems in place have historically marginalized many communities due to race, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, physical ability, language, and/or immigration status. As an organization, we seek to provide increased opportunity and strength through supporting artists and facilitators that represent all social identities including race, tribal affiliation, ethnicity, national origin, age, gender, sexuality, religion, ability, socioeconomic background and the intersectionality of these identities.
Curiosity Studio is a community art therapy studio. “Community art therapy studios promote individual and communal transformation outside of traditional health settings.” (Nolan, 2019).
Our goal is to create a brick and mortar space that allows for organic relationship building, mutual investment, or guidance that can occur within community relationships. The consistent and evolving programming offers space for individuals to plug in when they are ready for and interested in resources.
Our format allows for an indefinite length of time for relationship building that is often limited by cost or time within clinical settings.
In contrast to the medical model, we offer this space as a step up and step down service. We invite an option to step up into more deep thinking or relationship building. Alternatively, folks can step down from internally focused work to more externally focused principles.
We value wholeness, voice, connection, sustainability, process, and snacks within all of our programming. These values inform the classes we choose to run and the events that we commit to. It is from this place that we ask partners to move with us towards more accessible, informed and liberated spaces.
We ask our staff and participants to hold the same agreements to invest in a space that is safe, while understanding that the term safety means something different to everyone. As it stands, we commit to engaging in dialogue and clarification around disagreements on this definition in honest and curious dialogue.
We aim to build approachable, relational, honest and safe environments; this can be rich, fulfilling, and messy.
It is our expectation as a community to maintain a curious, respectful, gracious, kind, and forgiving space. And yet, there is always potential for misunderstanding, conflict, and vulnerability anytime that people gather together. We are dedicated to an environment that encourages safety, liberation and growth and by signing this form you are doing the same.
Thank you for agreeing to build a safer, honest, communicative and loving community.
Your agreement and signature to this approach will be required.
