River Bend Education Center
We have an ongoing relationship with River Bend Education Center, a Minneapolis Public School. River Bend provides 100% special education services to their students with a variety of needs.
Why River Bend?
Special Education can encompass many things; some students have physical disabilities that change their learning needs and others have mental health concerns that require additional support. Importantly, the representation of specific student groups in special education can reflect how deeply structural racism impacts our education system. River Bend is no exception. We intend to purposefully offset the gaps in resources that disproportionately fall on this student body.
Lauren has had a long standing relationship with this school providing social-emotional programming for the students in the past. An ongoing relationship with River Bend means that we will ask your help to participate in mutual aid opportunities that invest in the students and their social-emotional learning. Curiosity Studio, working from an anti-racist framework, will be developing campaigns for students with intentional, art-therapy informed responses. Due to the need for additional resources during the Covid-19 pandemic, financial investment is even more acute.
Current Campaign
This year, the DCD (developmental cognitive disability) and ASD (autism spectrum disorder) programs are working on building independent living and employment skills. The following items were specifically requested by the faculty to support that programming.
Please refer to the “Donate” google spreadsheet below for specific requests. These donations can be dropped off on
October 9th 8-11 am at Curiosity Studio on East Lake St.
Or consider contributing financially for larger ticket items and gaps in our donations. Donate to the financial campaign here.
